Getting to Winton

You haven’t been anywhere until you’ve been to The Outback. There are so many ways to get to Winton and however you choose to get here, you’re guaranteed a genuine Outback experience you’ll treasure forever.

 

Drive

You don’t need a 4WD to get to Winton, with sealed highways making it straightforward to drive to the real Outback. Though, if you do have a 4WD, you can be more adventurous when exploring some of our more off-the-beaten-track spots when you get here.

 

Rail

Queensland Rail, Travel Train operates Spirit of the Outback rail services twice weekly to and from Brisbane to Longreach. There is a rail coach link to Winton – so you can book your entire trip to Winton on Travel Train.

Fly

Regional Express (REX) has flights into Winton every Tuesday and Thursday on a loop departing from Townsville, which connects with Qantas Link flights in Longreach. Please be aware when flying into Winton that the airport is 5km from town, so you’ll need an airport pick-up. Please check with your accommodation or contact Winton Visitor Information Centre about the Winton minibus service.

An alternative to flying directly into Winton is taking the daily Qantas Link flight from Brisbane to Longreach where hire cars are available through Avis and Budget.

Bus

Greyhound coach services operate from Brisbane to Mt Isa and Mt Isa to Brisbane, stopping in Winton for their meal break. Greyhound also operate services between Longreach and Rockhampton. Reclining seats, in-seat USB chargers and a generous baggage allowance are included.
