The Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History is home to the world’s largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils, including some of our country's most famous finds. You'll meet 'Australovenator', a 2-legged meat-eating Megaraptor nicknamed 'Banjo', and a long-neck, long-tailed Titanosaur 'Diamantinasaurus', nicknamed 'Matilda' belonging to the family of the largest dinosaurs to ever roam the earth- and many of their pre-historic pals!
Located on top of a huge mesa plateau near Winton called “The Jump-Up", you'll look out over huge rocky outcrops, canyons and an endless horizon. Daily tours run throughout the year, though opening times vary depending on which season you're visiting us. Make sure to double check www.australianageofdinosaurs.com before you head out. It is recommended you book in advance to avoid missing out on your preferred time (especially in high season!).
Tours take you through Australia’s largest fossil preparation laboratory, the 'Collection Room' housing some of Australia's rarest and most exciting finds and then transports you back in time to check out REAL dinosaur footprints, made in the mud of a creek-bed 95 million years ago. After you've learnt all about Australia's natural history, wander the Jump-up at your own pace and finish the day off with a cuppa from the Cretaceous Cafe.
The ultimate visit includes three guided tours: Go behind the scenes in the Fossil Lab, see incredible discoveries in the Collection Room, then ride the Noble Express to Dinosaur Canyon for life-sized bronze dinos and learn about the 54-metre-long sauropod trackway carefully relocated to the Museum over three years.
Getting there is easy; the museum turnoff is just 13km south of Winton on the Landsborough Highway and then 12km further on an unsealed road. Signs will guide you along the way.
