Outback Regional Art Gallery

Back

The Outback Regional Gallery is one of three exhibition spaces located inside the Waltzing Matilda Centre. Our art gallery is a social and culturally inclusive meeting place for diverse audiences and remains committed to delivering outstanding exhibitions and increasing accessibility of vibrant programs for regional audiences. Visitors will be surprised by innovative programs that celebrate contemporary art and culture and highlight the uniqueness of Outback Australia.

The Outback Regional Gallery alternates a diverse annual program of touring, solo and group exhibitions including our annual visual arts prize – The John Villiers Outback Art Prize generously sponsored by The John Villiers Trust. The prize now worth $16,000 attracts talent locally and across the nation celebrating the cultural richness and inspiration from the inner regions of Australia. Now in its 22nd year the prize also encourages younger creatives to enter the emerging youth category and annual professional arts development program to continue the legacy of the late John ‘Jack’ Villiers vision to increase opportunity for young people living remote.

The Outback Regional Gallery is one of the only 24-hour climate controlled, purpose-built gallery’s in Central Queensland and is inclusive of First Nation programs, local exhibitors, and state and national touring exhibitions.
