Getting Around

There are so many ways to get to Winton - regardless of whether you want to take the wheel, or sit back and enjoy the ride. Winton is fully accessibly via bitumen roads, or for the off-road enthusiasts there are plenty of back roads and little-known routes to be taken. Don't forget when travelling in the Outback to take care, and check your mobile phone reception areas.

If you want to leave the car at home, there are daily coach services into Winton, operated by Greyhound. Travelling by train is also a great option, with Queensland Rail's Spirit of the Outback to Longreach, with a coach link to Winton. There is also flight services operated into Winton twice-weekly.

Birthplace of QANTAS

Winton is held to be the Birthplace of QANTAS. On 16th November, 1920, it was first registered as a company in Winton, with the first Board Meeting held at the Winton Club on 10th February, 1921. Later, the main office of QANTAS moved to Longreach.
